Northern Cape Attractions
Properties in the Northern Cape province of South Africa offers a wide range of investment opportunities with prime property on offer in towns like Kimberley, Kuruman, Upington, Kathu, Sishen, Prieska, Britstown and Barkley West.
The Northern Cape is the largest province in South Africa but also the most sparsely populated province. The Northern Cape is a semi-desert area with a comparively low average rainfall per year but it has a wealth of minerals. Its capital is Kimberley, famous for its production of diamonds in South Africa. Kimberley is a large town filled with rich history and only 175 km from Bloemfontein. Kimberley is home to many old buildings, museums and one of South Africa's most important art galaries. The most famous of its attractions is the Big Hole which was formed by ealy diamond mining activities.
Upington is the other major city in the Northern Cape, as an agricultural centre it is renowned for it's grapes and wine. Augrabies Falls National Park is situated higher north where the true power of the Orange River is demonstrated in a 90 metre waterfall. Linking the Northern Cape of South Africa to Botwana is the 2 million hektare sanctuary for wildlife called The Kalahari Gemsbok Park boasting with wildlife galore like gemsbok, springbok, blue wildebeest, red hartebeest, eland, lion, leopard, cheetah and many more.
Another important region for property in the Northern Cape is the Kalahari with towns like Kuruman and Kathu. Kuruman has great history that dates back many years, and the mining town of Kathu boasts with a fantastic golf course that stands out like an oasis in the middle of the desert.
Just a few kilometres from Kathu the Iron Mine of Sishen is situated. Further north from Sishen is a town called Olifantshoek that atracts tourists with the true spirit of the Kalahari featuring the white sands of the great sand dunes that offer peace, tranculaty and the wide open land of the Kalahari desert.
The Northern Cape is noted for its San rock art, diamond diggings, 4X4 safaris and the Kgalagadi Wildlife Park. It is a large, dry region of fluctuating temperatures and varying topographies. As the most arid part of South Africa the Northern Cape offers the visitor an experience that is not elsewhere available.
